All over the world, there are hundreds of thousands of gifted people with deep passions for art and media.
Publishers know this, and they put out magazines, television shows, newspaper columns, and websites that are supposed to help us decide what movies, television shows, and video games are worth our time. You buy these magazines, read these websites, and watch these shows...and gradually you start to notice: These people who are being paid to give us their opinions...they know LESS about what they're talking about than YOU do.
These people get free movies, appliances, and games in their cushy so-called jobs, and they turn around and give you reviews as worthless as the kind of marketing pap you read on the back of cereal boxes. Or worse...they are given the opportunity to defend and promote a truly innovative work of art, but they fail to grasp its meaning and deliver a review full of shallow, cowardly drivel. Why? Because they aren't qualified to do their jobs--jobs they acquired using the age-old methods of kissing butts and doing favors.
